The Beverage Container Management Board, Alberta Recycling and the Alberta Used Oil Management Association are teaming up again this year to celebrate Environment Week and thank Albertans for recycling. Albertans are some of the best recyclers in the world. They return more than two billion beverage containers annually to Alberta Depots for a refund and also recycle a significant number of TVs, computers, paint, tires, used oil, oil filters and plastic oil containers. Did you know we recycled 942 million aluminum cans in 2016? That’s enough to manufacture 44,000 half-ton trucks! We also recycled over 650 million plastic beverage containers like water bottles and milk jugs. That amount of plastic could be used to make enough toy blocks to reach halfway to the moon.

Environment Week is being recognized in Canada from June 5-11. Find more recycling facts by visiting
