Important Update: Revised Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI)

Edmonton, AB – Beverage Container Management Board (BCMB) is providing an important update regarding the Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) for bottle depots interested in participating in BCMB’s pilot projects exploring alternative methods of collecting beverage containers in Edmonton, Calgary, Evansburg, Fox Creek, and Waterton National Park.

BCMB has officially released a revised version of the Full Expression of Interest Document to enhance the application process and ensure more depots have the opportunity to apply and help shape the future of beverage container collection in Alberta. A new version of the document is available and features a new look and feel to improve clarity for potential pilot site operators.

Summary of Key Updates to Date:

  •  Changes to the Uniform Code of Accounts (UCA) Eligibility Criteria (August 22, 2025).
  • Updated BCMB RFEOI Template (September 11, 2025).

All other content remains the same.

As you know, Alberta’s beverage container collection rate is currently around 85%. This pilot project will explore innovative, convenient, and accessible collection options to push our recycling system toward a 100% collection rate. BCMB is eager for interested depot owners and operators to join us in this initiative.

All responses to the RFEOI must be received by 12:00 p.m. on November 3, 2025.

We strongly encourage all interested parties, including those who may have reviewed the previous version, to download and review the latest version of the RFEOI document and all project details to ensure you have the most current information for your submission.

If you have any questions relating to project locations, eligibility criteria, the application process, timing of the projects, or BCMB’s evaluation, please contact pilots@bcmb.ab.ca.
