Edmonton, AB – Beverage Container Management Board (BCMB) is providing an important update regarding the Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) for bottle depots interested in participating in BCMB’s pilot projects exploring alternative methods of collecting beverage containers in Edmonton, Calgary, Evansburg, Fox Creek and Waterton National Park.

BCMB has updated the Full Expression of Interest Document to enhance the application process and ensure that more depots have the opportunity to apply and help shape the future of beverage container collection in Alberta.

Updates to the Request for Expressions of Interest are:

  •  Changes to the UCA Eligibility Criteria

As you know, Alberta’s beverage container collection rate is currently around 85%. This pilot project will explore innovative, convenient, and accessible collection options to push our recycling system toward a 100% collection rate. BCMB is eager for interested depot owners and operators to join us in this initiative.

All responses to the RFEOI must be received by 12:00 p.m. on November 3, 2025.

We strongly encourage all interested parties, including those who may have reviewed the previous version, to download and review the latest Full Expression of Interest Document and all project details on our website to ensure you have the most current information for your submission.

If you have any questions relating to project locations, eligibility criteria, the application process, timing of the projects, or BCMB’s evaluation, please contact pilots@bcmb.ab.ca.

Thank you for your work in upholding Alberta’s beverage container recycling system.
