Checking Refund Accuracy

The "Mystery Shopper Program" is a province-wide BCMB initiative committed to ongoing depot refund compliance checks. Each year the BCMB has a goal to check 98% or more of all Alberta depots. In order to implement this ambitious project, we have partnered with several community groups. Members of these groups, our "mystery shoppers", take approximately the same amount of pre-counted materials to each depot. Every "mystery shopper" reports their refund amount to the BCMB which uses the information to measure annual changes.

In addition, the BCMB supplies each depot with a detailed follow-up report. Routine checks provide a valuable service to the public, offering insight into the accuracy of cash refunds supplied to Alberta consumers.
